Triple P Program @ Bull Creek Primary School

What is Triple P?

Triple P is the parenting program that helps make raising kids easier. It gives you tips and ideas to help raise happy and confident kids; see more of the behaviours you like and less of the ones you don’t; and have better relationships with your family. Children thrive when they are raised in a nurturing environment. The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program gives Mums, Dads and Carers ideas and strategies to help their child develop the skills and behaviours they need for a healthy childhood. Triple P is one of the world’s most effective parenting programs. It is an Australian Program developed by Clinical Psychologist Professor Matt Sanders and his colleagues at the University of Queensland, Triple P has been tested with thousands of families through ongoing research over more than 30 years!

The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program is available to parents and carers of children in Western Australia, thanks to the Department of Education, Child and Adolescent Health Service, WA Country Health Service, and the Department of Communities. Private providers also deliver Triple P. Free face-to-face Triple P Seminars are being offered in various locations, and a range of seminars are available live online. Unfortunately, copyright restrictions and the interactive nature with parents sharing personal information prohibit recordings of the sessions to be shared and the sessions have to be attended in person or viewed live.

Triple P doesn’t tell people how to parent. Rather, it offers simple and practical strategies that parents can adapt to suit their own values, beliefs and needs. The benefits can be dramatic and long-lasting. Triple P is designed to give parents the skills they need to raise confident, healthy children and to build stronger family relationships. Research has shown beneficial impacts across different cultures, socio-economic groups and in many different family structures.

In times of uncertainty, it’s important now more than ever to support your family’s wellbeing.

Upcoming Online Seminars in 2024

Our School Psychologist delivered 4 seminars across 2023. We had a fantastic attendance with over 94 attendees across both the Junior Seminar Series (3 parts) and the Fearless: Managing Anxiety Seminar! There were so many positive comments from parents that attended and we would encourage all families to participate in these seminars if they have the opportunity. Unfortunately time demands in 2024 mean that we don’t have any in-person sessions at Bull Creek scheduled this year.

Stand-a-lone single Triple P Seminars and Discussion Groups are also available covering a range of topics. Child and Parent Centres are offering a range of free online workshops for families which we have outlined below. To register for any of these sessions, follow this link! Registration with a valid email address is essential to attend and registrations close 24 hours before each of the scheduleded workshop.

Expressing feelings without aggression (pre-schoolers)
All children get upset and fight sometimes. This can happen because they are still learning how to manage their emotions, get along with others, and solve problems calmly. In this session, we will talk about responding to your child’s frustration and anger and suggest ideas that will help them express themselves in non-hurtful ways
Tuesday
6th August
7pm – 9pm
Making and keeping friends (10-16 years)
Peer relationships become increasingly important during the teenage years, and parents may find it difficult to navigate and adjust to these changes in relationships. A challenge for parents is knowing how to encourage your teen to make the most of their time at school. This session will provide some ideas on how to help teens develop the skills they need to become competent young adults. We will cover six key ingredients: developing self-discipline, being a good problem solver, establishing routines, getting involved in school activities, following school rules and having supportive friends.
Tuesday

Promoting self-esteem (pre-schoolers, primary schoolers and teens)
As children grow up they form views of themselves as a person, their value as an individual and how good they are at doing things. This view of their self-worth is called self-esteem. This session will help you encourage your child to be confident and develop healthy self-esteem.

All children have to learn to cope with temporary separations from their parents. Shyness around new people and anxiety about separation from parents is common in toddlers and pre-schoolers.
